Is Etsy Safe? Is Etsy Legit? (You’ll Be Surprised…)

  • Etsy, the popular craft and vintage marketplace that allows users to buy and sell handmade or vintage items and art online, has become a household name in the past few years.
  • Many of us have received gifts from Etsy sellers at some point in time, whether it was for our birthday, graduation, wedding, or anniversary.
  • It’s so easy to get swept up in the shopping experience, that it’s easy to forget that you’re handing over your credit card information and other personal info to complete strangers.
  • Etsy is a legitimate company, but just because it’s legit doesn’t mean you should assume it will be safe by default.
  • Since its’ inception in 2005, there have been many news stories of Etsy users being ripped off or scammed by bad sellers.

3. Can you be scammed on Etsy?

– Many of my friends have asked me if they can get scammed on this website and to be honest with you, I think that if you are smart about your purchase and read the reviews, you will probably be okay.

There are always some bad eggs on every website, unfortunately.

4. How trustworthy is Etsy?

– Well, based on my own experiences I’d say it’s very trustworthy because I’ve never had an issue with any of the sellers. I’ve been shopping on Etsy for over three years now and the only thing that’s happened is that one of my items came broken, but all I had to do was contact the seller and they promptly sent me a new one!!

– As long as you make sure that the item you’re purchasing is handmade, vintage (not second-hand), and the seller has great reviews then you should be fine. You can also read my article on how to know if an Etsy seller is legit.

6. Does Etsy take your information?

– This is a tricky question because it depends on what kind of account you have.

If you are just signing up for an “individual” account, then under your profile it will say that Etsy does not collect any of your information and that you do not need to submit any payment information if you purchase something on the site.

However, if you sign up for a business account then they do collect more of your information.

7. Does Etsy know your IP address?

– This is another tricky question because they do not collect your IP address when you are signing up for an individual account, but if you sign up for a business account then they do collect it.

I have read some articles that say they actually sell your IP address to advertisers also, so if this is a concern for you, then read through their Privacy Policy.

11. What is Etsy’s phone number?

– According to allnurses.com, the Etsy customer service number is 1 (800) 400-4531.

12. Does Etsy have a privacy policy?

– Yes they do and it can be found here: https://www.etsy.com/legal/privacy . It says that when making an account you do not have to submit any personal information other than your first name, last name, and password.

Conclusion

So as you can see, Etsy is a legit website and if you’re thinking about making an account I would only advise that you only purchase from people who make handmade or vintage items to avoid getting scammed.

If you have already made your account, then I advise that you only purchase from people who have over 100% positive feedback, good reviews, and they are not new to the site.

If you follow my advice about checking the seller’s profile out, then hopefully nothing will happen to you!
